Thanks for the comeback John. I wondered if some of us guys who served aboard during the last four or five cruises were eligible for anything other than a hearty 'thank you for your service'.

To Joe(SNOID#!)Daly...sorry to say, at this date, I haven't seen nor heard of the service award for the last North Atlantic cruise.

I tried the link to wiki re: Jim Woods' inquiry about the service aard for the last NAtlantic cruise. It didn't seem to work. Did anyone ever find out about that award?

Letters to Home - GQ:Fire
“For the last week we’ve been having GQ Drills (General Quarters) for a couple of hours a day. My GQ Station is Repair 2F, which is the Wardroom area. I’m the Phone Talker so that’s pretty good. We got hit with 2 drills – one a fire, where they set off a smoke bomb, and the next day a flood drill.
These drills were being conducted all over the ship to get us ready for Saturday (yesterday) when we had a big exercise. Observers from the Cruiser USS Boston came over to grade us and we sent observers over there. My Repair Unit thought for sure we were going to get a drill, but they didn’t hit us. However the next locker over (2E), got 2 fires, a flood and a broken fire main drill – all at once.
From what I understand the ship didn’t do too hot, but that it was the brain center (Damage Control Center) that did most of the fouling-up. The drills finished about quarter of ten last night and then they showed a movie in the Hangar Bay – ‘Separate Tables’?, served coffee and cookies, and … now it is … Saturday afternoon. So, I think you can see how being on the run I didn’t want to write till I knew what was happening.”
