Last month, we lost my uncle and your shipmate, Parker G. Buzzell. He was 89 years old. As his son and I looked through his things, we found a piece of the Japanese plane that struck the ship. It has a part of the Rising Sun still on it.

I also remember the day we lost AN Urban. I was a Fireman working in #3 elevator pump room when the announcement came over the PA system. A sad day . I think it was November or December 1972. Never Forget .

I remember the A4 breaking the bridle on the starboard cat as if it were yesterday. I was an AC and was working departure. The scooter went over the port horn and took the crewman who waz the bridle runner with him. The pilot punched out at the last second and was rescued by a flight deck officer or Chief who grabbed him (Pabst?), as he was coming down. I believe they landed in the netting. The sailors name was Richard Urban. I believe he was the last sailor to give his life in the line of duty on this great Ship.

Kidd, I remember the whale well. It's size amazed this young boy from Louisiana. I also remember the A4 that went over the side and took the young sailer with it. It was a sad moment when they threw a wreath over the side and we sailed away. We left the plane and the sailer in the ocean that day.
